Along comes Murph

After an amazing weekend rock climbing near Vantage, WA and tough Monday morning chipper at Crossfit Eastside, the last prescription I expected on Monday night was 'Murph'. Under the pressure of a running clock, one must run 1 mile, do 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and then run 1 mile to complete a full 'Murph'. This is someones idea of a good time.

Taking a zen moment to rest my tired arms

Being able to handle the physical challenge of Murph on an already tired body is certainly an accomplishment. However, it is the ability to retain mental clarity and confidence that really deserves recognition. Although admittedly, I lost composure momentarily when several callouses tore and I was faced with having to complete the remaining 60 pull-ups with painful, bloodied hands. Despite the visions of yet another hospital visit, I felt no urge to quit and steadfastly focused on the work to be done. There would be no quitters in the gym that night.
It was an incredible experience to share this tough workout with such high calibre people. Not once did I hear ANYONE whinge or whine and as a result, the whole gym vibed of positive productive energy. It was a crazy night! The ensuing soreness has been a nice little reminder of how awesome Crossfit is. Its high standards and dedication in pursuing both physical and mental fitness and also the wonderful community that is growing out of it are truly unparalled. Crossfit, I'm so glad I found you. :)
